The basis of all psychological systems based on the Yogas and the Tantras is Self-Identification.The Self-identification is the primary attribution based on which there is individual, unique, perception of the world, the self and the interaction between the two.
Self-identification is necessarily psychosomatic or psychological as well as physical. It is the contention of the Yogic Sciences that it is this very attributional Self-identification that is the Base, the Source of our abilities, our disabilities, our pain and intermittent pleasure.
Now, what is to be noted here first and foremost is that Yoga Psychology does not accept substantial reality of this attributed Self or what Western psychology would call the Ego.
This course : The Self – Senses, Mind & Reality, explores the concept of the Self or The Ego, according to the Yogic perspective, as explained by the Great Psychologist Maharishi Patanjali in his profound and timeless text – Raja Yoga Sutras.
The specifics that are covered in this course are the various levels or modes of operation of the Self. At the highest level is Primary Undifferentiated Consciousness or Universal Consciousness, and the levels below, namely the Soul Consciousness, Ego-Mind Consciousness and Body Consciousness.
Cognitive Scientists and Psychologists would surely enjoy this unique perspective on the Self, however, in order to fully appreciate the depth and perceptive insight of Maharashi Patanjali as concerns the Psyche, we would recommend aspiring students to enroll for the other sub-modules that make up entire Raja Yoga teachings.
